Since the Indian group Tata Motors took over the British brand Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) under its wing, we were treated to a panoply of beautiful cars and SUV absolutely sublime.
But for many, a “real” Land Rover is a Defender. A vehicle that is no longer part of the range for some time. Well, according to Land Rover, he’ll be back next year!
A legend
The Land Rover Defender – sold in our market between the ’50s and’ 70s, then back in the ’90s – is currently one of the most sought after off-road vehicles on the planet, with a selling price that can easily exceed $ 100,000 when in good condition. It has become a real collector’s item.
However, the return of such a legend means that the manufacturer has a lot of pressure on the shoulders to satisfy the purists, and that is why the prototypes are already put to the test in the most difficult climates and terrains of the planet, confirmed JLR in its announcement. We even hear about tests done in Canada’s far north!
The manufacturer claims that the new Defender will be marketed by the end of 2019 as a 2020 model. We also promise the most robust Land Rover vehicle ever produced, capable of operating at temperatures that can go as cold as – 40 ° C and heat over 48 ° C while being able to ride at an altitude of more than 13 000 feet.
For the moment, we have only a few images of the camouflaged vehicle, without technical specifications announced. However, we notice an angular and square shape, like its predecessor.
JLR also promises two- and four-door versions, which will allow this new Defender to compete with the latest off-road vehicle lineup, including vehicles such as the Jeep Wrangler, Mercedes-Benz G-Class, Toyota 4Runner and next Ford Bronco.
